Moderna and BetterUp conducted a first-of-its-kind research study — spanning interviews and quantitative surveys across 2,000+ employees — to uncover the specific behaviors and mindsets that define high performance inside Moderna’s culture.

The work surfaced 13 performance drivers: a mix of Moderna-specific competencies and BetterUp Whole Person Model™ capabilities that became the backbone of the entire development approach.

The design for the system became clear and focused: development built around how leaders make decisions, how managers give feedback, and how teams respond under pressure. Grounded in behaviors surfaced directly from Moderna’s own high performers and backed by BetterUp's behavioral science rigor, the system wasn't borrowed from a playbook. It was built from Moderna’s own.

BetterUp Manage unlocked AI and human coaching for Moderna’s new managers, equipping them to meet the demands of managing for the first time and empowering them to lead with the same drive that made them high performers.

Managers rapidly moved from doing to enabling.
