FAQs

How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy (also known as psychotherapy, counselling, or “talk therapy”) is similar to coaching in some ways. Both use evidence-based techniques and intentional dialogue as the primary tools for growth and discovery, but there are also key differences between these services: Coaching focuses primarily on the present and future, while therapy focuses on the past, present, and future. Coaching is focused on personal growth and professional development, while therapy is designed to help you work through deeper issues such as anxiety, depression, or trauma.

Who are your Coaches?

BetterUp has the world’s largest network of licensed and certified Coaches in positive behaviour change. Our Coaches can support you on everything from creating better habits to reaching your personal and professional goals. Through a careful vetting process, BetterUp accepts just 8% of coach applicants to our platform to ensure the highest quality experience for our members.

How do I know if coaching is right for me?

When you feel like you are functioning well overall and want to set goals to help you develop a greater sense of drive, improve your ability to bounce back from setbacks, feel more satisfied with your life, or improve your relationships - coaching may be a great fit for you.

How does pricing work?

We offer monthly subscriptions to BetterUp, which include 1:1 coaching sessions, an on-demand content library, goal-setting features, and more. We have several pricing options based on how often you want to meet your coach.

What is your cancellation policy, and how do I cancel?

You may cancel at anytime through the Subscription page within the Settings of your account.

If you cancel your monthly subscription after payment, the current month of service will be completed and the cancellation will occur on the last date of your month of service.

What happens if I miss a session?

We suggest that you aim to cancel a session at least 24 hours in advance so a new session may be booked. Sessions cannot be made up or moved to future months if one is missed or you do not complete all offered sessions in the month.

What happens if I don’t use one of my sessions?

We strongly encourage you to use your coaching sessions within your paid month. Sessions that are not scheduled or completed in the month do not roll over.

Does my payment apply to the past or future month?

Payment is for the next month of service.

What are coaching sessions like?

In your 30 minute coaching session, your coach will give you the space and care needed to navigate your own journey. Your coach can help you define and gain clarity on your purpose for engaging in coaching, but only you can decide why you’re here and where you want to go. To help you get there, your coach has several tools and skills to guide you.
